Take some time to enjoy the natural beauty of Kansas. The Salina Parks and Recreation departments strives to maintain a pleasant environment in all of the parks you´ll find around town. Find the park that´s nearest you and find a great place to meet with friends and neighbors for a little relaxation.
On South Second and Mulberry you will find Oakdale Park. Set on the banks of the Smoky Hill River, Oakdale Park is 45 acres of some of the most gorgeous scenery in the area. Enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds and the annual festivals that take place here. There are also tennis courts, playgrounds and a performance stage for your enjoyment.
Lakewood Park is home to many attractions including the Lakewood Park Discovery Center. The Park itself is a sprawling natural paradise of woodlands, prairie and water. There are many hiking trails on the property where you can glimpse deer, raccoons and squirrels among other of Kansas´ natural wildlife.
Near Lakewood Park on Indiana Street you will find Indian Rock Park. Here you will find an oasis of wildflowers and other wildlife. Enjoy the smell of the black locust trees that populate the property.
The Kansas Fishes exhibit gives you an idea of what the river looks like below the water. Located on the corner of the Central Mall, the Kansas Fishes Exhibit contains a 15,000 gallon aquarium that is built to resemble the river habitat. You can see many of the native fishes including the bass, walleye and channel catfish.
At under 25 acres, Jerry Ivey Park has more than enough room to run around in. Located next Salina High School on Ohio Street and Magnolia Road, Jerry Ivey Park has tennis, volleyball and basketball courts as well as a playground and walking trails. The spray fountain is a favorite of kids during the summer months.
